Few Indian designers have bridged the worlds of heritage textiles and contemporary luxury the way Vaishali Shadangule has. As her label Vaishali S marks twenty-five influential years, the brand stands as a testament to how craftsmanship, sustainability, and innovation can shape a designer’s global legacy.
The Journey Begins: From Chanderi Workshops To A Dream
Vaishali Shadangule started her career far from fashion capitals—inside small weaving clusters across Chanderi, Maheshwar, and Bengal. Working directly with artisans, she discovered the poetry of traditional looms and the rhythm of handwoven textiles.

Her bond with craft was forged long before she knew it. As a young girl, she often accompanied her mother to a Chanderi weaver’s home, where she would watch in awe as the loom came alive. “I remember the weaver tying nearly 10,000 threads without even looking—his hands moved like memory itself,” she recalls. The rhythmic clatter of the loom felt to her like a meditative symphony, though she didn’t recognise it as fashion back then.

That realization came years later, after she left home and stepped into a fashion institute in Bhopal. “That’s when it struck me—I wanted to take Chanderi and India’s handwoven fabrics to the world,” she says.
It was the moment her childhood memories found their purpose, shaping the designer she would become.
